ToggleIn a shocking turn of events, Ann Altman, the sister of OpenAI’s prominent CEO Sam Altman, has brought forth a lawsuit against her brother, alleging that he sexually abused her during her formative years. The case was filed in a federal court in Missouri, with claims that the disturbing incidents transpired between 1997 and 2006. The allegations assert that this abuse began when Ann was merely three years old, while Sam was twelve.
The lawsuit paints a troubling picture of Ann’s experiences, claiming that the alleged abuse has caused her debilitating emotional distress and hindered her ability to lead a “normal life.” It highlights her struggle in coping with the aftermath of these experiences, suggesting that her mental well-being has been drastically affected.
In response to these serious allegations, Sam Altman, along with his family, issued a public statement, which he shared on X (previously known as Twitter). The statement conveys their deep concern for Annie’s health and well-being, saying:
Our family loves Annie and is genuinely worried about her condition. Caring for a family member grappling with mental health challenges is exceptionally tough. Families navigating similar difficulties can undoubtedly relate to this experience.
Throughout the years, we have tried countless ways to support Annie, aiming to help her regain stability while following expert guidance on how to be supportive without enabling destructive behaviors. To illustrate our commitment, we have provided her with monthly financial support, directly covered her bills, facilitated her rent, helped her find job opportunities, and even sought medical assistance for her. We also made an effort to buy her a house through a trust to ensure she has a secure living situation, yet without the ability to sell it immediately. Via our late father’s estate, Annie receives ongoing financial support that we anticipate will continue throughout her lifetime.
Despite our efforts, Annie continues to request additional financial assistance from us. In this pursuit, she has made deeply hurtful and entirely false claims about our family, particularly concerning Sam. We have generally refrained from publishing responses to maintain her privacy as well as our own. However, with her recent decision to take legal action against Sam, we find it necessary to address this matter publicly.
Over the years, Annie has accused various members of our family of unjustly withholding her father’s 401k funds, hacking her internet, and even “shadowbanning” her from platforms like ChatGPT, Twitter, and others. Her most severe allegation has been the claim that Sam sexually abused her as a child, along with previous assertions of sexual assault from other individuals. The nature of her claims has changed significantly over time, and now includes allegations of incidents that occurred when Sam was over the age of 18.
All these claims are completely false. This situation inflicts a tremendous amount of pain on our entire family, and it is particularly distressing to witness her refusal to accept conventional treatment while aggressively targeting family members who are earnestly trying to help her.
We urge everyone to approach this situation with understanding and compassion as we strive to support Annie through this challenging period. We genuinely hope she ultimately finds the stability and peace she desperately seeks.
