ToggleGoogle is in the process of introducing an innovative AI-powered feature known as Daily Listen. When rolled out to the public, this functionality will furnish users with concise five-minute audio summaries covering topics and stories that pique their personal interests. The Daily Listen feature taps into data gathered from users’ Discover feeds and search histories to curate content that genuinely resonates with each individual. As of now, this feature is being tested in the Search Labs environment.
The Daily Listen feature promises to enhance user experience by providing an AI-generated transcript alongside visually appealing cover art for each audio summary.
If you’re eager to try out this new feature, here’s a detailed guide on how to do so.
Currently, Daily Listen is exclusively available to users in the US on both Android and iOS platforms. To access this feature, navigate to the Search Labs section within the Google app by tapping on the triangular beaker icon located in the upper-left corner of the screen.
Upon enabling the feature, you will find a ‘Made for you’ Daily Listen card presented under the Space carousel, which is situated just below the Google Search bar. A simple tap on this card will launch a full-screen audio player.
Once the audio player is open, you will be presented with several controls allowing you to play, pause, rewind, or mute the audio as per your preference. Additionally, users are encouraged to interact with the content by providing feedback through thumbs-up or thumbs-down options. This feedback mechanism will contribute to refining and personalizing the listening experience even further.
In an exciting development, Google had previously launched the NotebookLM Audio Overviews feature in September 2024. This feature has the capability to convert documents into engaging 10-minute podcasts hosted by AI. The AI hosts provide summaries of uploaded content, draw thematic connections, and engage in lively discussions.
Furthermore, Google has enhanced the Audio Overviews feature, enabling users to join the conversations between AI hosts. Users have the option to “call in” during the podcast, allowing them to request clarifications, alternative explanations, or additional insights. Google describes this experience as akin to having a personal tutor or guide who listens attentively to user inquiries and responds directly, drawing knowledge from the uploaded documents and sources.
These remarkable features harness the potential of advanced AI models such as Gemini 1.5 Pro and the experimental Gemini 2.0 Flash. The integration of these AI technologies promises to revolutionize how users interact with audio content and information summarization.
