According to insights from MacRumors, Apple had explored the possibility of 8K video recording capabilities on the iPhone 16 Pro; however, technical constraints primarily due to the limitations of the 12MP telephoto lens prevented this feature from being included. The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to upgrade its camera system to include a trio of 48MP lenses, effectively eliminating these prior restrictions and enabling 8K video recording across all rear cameras for the very first time.
Competitors in the market, including the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and Google Pixel 9 Pro, already support 8K video recording. While the 8K resolution isn’t yet widespread, its advantages include the capability to crop footage without sacrificing 4K quality, making it a valuable feature for content creators.
