ToggleVodafone Idea, commonly referred to as Vi, is set to introduce its 5G services across India. Until now, the 5G market has primarily been dominated by Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, both of which have significantly solidified their 5G offerings in the country. As per the latest statement from the telecom operator, the rollout of their 5G services will commence in April 2025, and the focus will be on metropolitan areas.
In its recent financial update, Vi confirmed that the launch of its 5G services will occur starting April 2025. However, the company has not specified an exact date for the initiation of these services. The initial phase of the 5G network will be accessible in cities including Delhi, Chandigarh, Bengaluru, and Patna, with the anticipation of expanding to additional locations thereafter. This initiative follows Vi’s completion of its Minimum Rollout Obligation, a target set by the government to have 5G operational in 17 telecom circles by December 2024.
While Vi has not disclosed specific commercial speed details for its 5G services, its previous testing suggests robust performance potential. Notably, in 2022, Vi achieved a remarkable peak download speed of 5.92 Gbps in Pune, along with a significant achievement of 1.2 Gbps at the MG Road Metro Station in Bengaluru. For its upcoming rollouts, Vi is projected to utilize a combination of 3.5GHz (C-band) and 1,800MHz spectrum bands, which should enhance service quality and speed.
As for the pricing of Vi’s 5G plans, the company is aiming to keep them competitive within the current market landscape. Vi has indicated that its 5G plans could be priced up to 15% lower than the entry-level plans offered by Jio and Airtel. This strategy might spark another pricing war in the telecom sector once Vi officially launches its 5G network.
We will continue to provide updates on any further details as they are released by the company. With this new development, the customers of Vi can look forward to experiencing high-speed data and the benefits of a 5G network in the near future.
