Recent information has surfaced indicating that Apple is in the process of integrating yet another third-party AI service.

Aaron Perris, an analyst with MacRumours, uncovered new code snippets within the latest iOS 18.4 beta version.

This discovery unveiled a “Third-party model” section now listing Google alongside OpenAI.

The initial discussions around Apple Intelligence led to various speculations about the potential integration of either ChatGPT or Gemini AI with Siri, aimed at enhancing its capabilities. While Apple initially launched Apple Intelligence featuring ChatGPT integration, there remained curiosity regarding how Gemini AI would be incorporated. It now appears that Apple is looking to broaden its AI capabilities by possibly adding Google’s Gemini AI models into its Apple Intelligence ecosystem.

The recent data leak regarding iOS 18.4 beta indicates that Apple is advancing towards the inclusion of an additional third-party AI service, following the introduction of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in iOS 18.2. Aaron Perris, a MacRumours analyst, found new code strings revealing a “Third-party model” section that includes Google, alongside OpenAI.

Previously, Apple confirmed its intention to provide users with multiple AI models, and this latest leak appears to support that vision. Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, alluded to this development during the WWDC 2024. He mentioned that although OpenAI was the first AI provider integrated into Apple’s framework, Apple had plans to collaborate with other firms, such as Google. Nevertheless, he noted that no immediate announcements were forthcoming.

As it stands, Apple Intelligence offers ChatGPT-powered assistance through Siri and various writing tools. The introduction of Google’s AI models into this ecosystem would broaden the scope of AI functionalities available to Apple users, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of Apple’s devices.

A critical takeaway from the timeline of the Apple Intelligence rollout is the understanding that integration of Gemini AI may not occur right away. Mark Gurman previously reported that Apple could maintain an exclusivity period for OpenAI prior to expanding its AI partnerships. If Apple does choose to implement Gemini AI, it could coincide with the anticipated launch of the iPhone 17 series later this year.

For the moment, we should approach this news cautiously, as Apple has a considerable timeframe before the iPhone 17 series is released, and adjustments may still be made to their AI strategy.
