ToggleThe Humane AI Pin, which garnered significant attention at last year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), was initially hailed as a groundbreaking invention. However, it later faced a wave of criticism for various deficiencies and operational issues. In a noteworthy update, HP has officially acquired the AI startup, solidifying its grasp on the software platform, intellectual properties, patents, and talent associated with Humane. Unfortunately, this acquisition signals the discontinuation of the Humane AI Pin.
Beginning February 28, the Humane AI Pin will cease operations and will no longer establish connections to its servers. This will effectively disable essential functionalities such as calling, messaging, AI queries, and overall cloud access. Users are urged to back up any data—including pictures, videos, and notes—stored on their devices prior to this date, as it will be permanently erased when the shutdown occurs. It’s important to note that while certain offline features, such as battery level monitoring, will still function, any feature reliant on cloud connectivity will become inactive.
As for refunds, Humane has clarified that AI Pins purchased within a 90-day return window from their original shipment date are eligible for refunds, as outlined in their FAQ regarding the acquisition. Users must submit refund requests by February 27, 2025. Additionally, if any subscriptions extend beyond February 28, the company has stated, “we will process a prorated refund.”

Founded in 2019 by Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, Humane aimed to revolutionize personal tech with its AI-driven device. However, the AI Pin encountered multiple substantial issues, such as overheating problems and inaccurate AI responses, which drastically reduced its sales to only 10,000 units instead of the projected 100,000. Following significant negative reviews, Humane engaged in discussions with HP for a potential acquisition valued at over $1 billion.
With the acquisition now complete, HP is set on broadening its product ecosystem. The tech giant plans to establish an innovation hub named HP IQ. Both Chaudhri and Bongiorno will join HP, where the company envisions utilizing Humane’s cutting-edge technology to develop a new line of “experience-led” products. This strategic move indicates HP’s commitment to enhancing user experiences through innovative technology solutions.
